Drug form and composition Ointment. 1 g ointment contains: 30 mg Chlorquinaldol, 10 mg Hydrocortisone.
Indications Acute and subacute eczema; dermatitis; dermatomycosis; pyodermatitis; intertrigo; infected wounds and ulcers in subacute stage; pemphigus vulgaris in newborns.
Dosage and administration A small amount of the ointment has to be applied in a thin layer 1-3 times daily, usually covered with a cloth dressing.
Contraindications The ointment should not be applied in case of hypersensitivity to any of its components.
Special warnings and precautions The preparation should not be applied to the eyes, as it may cause conjunctivitis. No data for detrimental effect on the fetus as well as for excretion in the milk of Chlorquinaldol H in local application. Nevertheless it is not recommendable to use the preparation on pregnant and nursing women in large area or for prolonged periods.
Drug interactions No clinically significant drug interactions were seen.
Adverse reactions In rare cases the preparation may cause allergy reactions, manifesting with redness, itching, and rash.
Pharmacological mechanisms Chlorquinaldol belongs to the group of the oxyquinolines. The 8-oxyquinoline derivatives possess an antibacterial, antiprotozoal, and antimycotic activity. Chlorquinaldol acts bacteriostatic on streptococci, staphylococci, and several Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. Influence trichophytons, candida, epidermophitones, Trichomonas vaginalis, etc. Chlorquinaldol H possesses anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, anti-exudative action, because of hydrocortisone presence.
