COMPOSITION:
Testosterone propionate 10 mg/1 ml, 25 mg/1 ml and
50 mg/1 ml in one ampoule

ACTION:
Male sexual hormone with pronounced, mainly androgenic action, possessing the biological and therapeutic properties of the natural hormone. Unlike it, however, it is absorbed more slowly and is more stable in the body. In a healthy male organism, androgens are formed by the testes and adrenal cortex. It is normally produced in women in small physiological quantities. In addition to the specific action that determines the sexual characteristics of the individual, it also has a general anabolic action, manifested in enhancement of protein synthesis. Under the effect of testosterone, body weight increases and urea excretion is reduced. High doses suppress the production of hypophyseal gonadotropin, while low doses stimulate it. It has an antitumor effect on mammary gland metastases.

INDICATIONS:
Impotence, sterility, deficiency phenomena after castration of males; for provoking sexual maturing in eunuchoidism, congenital underdevelopment of sexual glands and in the absence of secondary sexual characteristics; acromegaly; cryptorchism; adiposogenital dystrophy; hypogenitalism and male climacteric. Rarely in hormone-dependent cancers of mammary glands with bone metastases.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Cancer of prostate; in sharply mahifested atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, cardiac insufficiency. In females with hypercalcemia, metastases in bones from breast cancer.

SIDE EFFECTS:
Most often - retention of water and salts in the body, which leads to formation of edemas, very risky in patients with cardiac decompensation and congestive phenomena in the extremities (favours the advance of thrombophlebitis). The occurrence of priapism is a manifestation of excessive dosage, necessitating a temporary discontinuation of the treatment. In patients with liver lesiaons, it can provoke icterus of a cholostatic type.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Edemas are formed during parallel administration with ACTH. Testosteron enhances the action of coumarin anticoagulants, insulin, metformine, sulfonylurea antidiabetic agents. Barbiturates decrease the action of testosterone.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
It is injected in the upper-outer quadrant of the gluteal muscle, according to physician's prescription and under physician's control. The daily dose is 5-10-25 mg, injected in a rhythm: every day to 2-3 times weekly. The high doses are used in underdeveloped sexual glands and acromegaly (from the beginning until clinical improvement). In impotence the male climacteric (as well as rarely in hyperthrophy of the prostate), the doses are lower: 0.01-0.025 respectively, daily or every 2-3 days. Very high doses are used in oncological practice for females: 0.05 daily for weeks.

MEDICINAL FORM AND PACKAGE:
Packages with 10 and 50 ampoules of 10 mg/1 ml (1 %), 25 mg/1 ml (2.5 %) and 50 mg/1 ml (5 %).
