Amidophen reduces the elevated body temperature by dilating the peripheral blood vessels, and leads to intensive release of heat with profuse perspiration; it has a temporary inhibitory effect on the thermoregulatory center. The analgesic effect of amidophen is due to a rise in the pain sensitivity threshold of the thalamus and to inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
