- COMPOSITION:
Diazepam 10 mg/2 ml in one ampoule.
ACTION:
A benzodiazepin derivative with a tranquilizing, myorelaxant,
anticonvulsive action. It potentiates the effect of the sedative and
analgesic preparations. It has an action stimulating the central
nervous system. It suppresses feelings of fear, tension and anxiety,
and eliminates psychomotor excitation. The preparation is useful in
treatment of patients with acute agitation, as well as in cases of
convulsions (e.g. epilepsy), with status epilepticcus etc. it has a
slight hypotensive effect and a considerable peripheral myorelaxant
action.
INDICATIONS:
In neurotic conditions with concomitant anxiety, agitation, tension,
increased irritability, insomnia. Since it decreases the muscular
tone, it is appropriate for treatment of spastic conditions
resulting from brain and spinal cord lesions, as well as in
arthritis, myositis, bursitis. In psychiatry it is used for
treatment of schizophrenia with neurosis-like symptoms and in
different psychic diseases, for treatment of abstinent syndrome in
alcoholism and drug addiction. In anesthesiology it is used for
pre-operative preparation of the patients and in the post-operative
period.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Acute diseases of liver and kidneys, myasthenia gravis, pregnancy in
the first 3 months, acute alcoholic and barbiturate intoxication,
hypersensitivity to benzodiazepins, evidence of medicinal and
alcoholic dependence. |
SIDE EFFECTS:
Occasional somnolence, slight dizziness, uncertain gait, skin
itching, nausea, constipation, decreased libido. Sudden withdrawal
after prolonged use may provoke depression, excitation, loss of
appetite.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
The suppressing action of diazepam on CNS is increased when combined
with alcohol, barbiturates, antihistamine preparations, bromides,
chloralhydrate, narcotic analgesics. Its action is increased by
MAO-inhibitors simultaneous use with myorelaxant cimetidin may delay
the elimination of diazepam.
PRECAUTIONS:
Diazepam should not be used simultaneously with alcohol. It
influences the speed of the reflex action, that is why it should not
be administered to drivers and people whose activities require rapid
and adequate actions.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Diazepam is applied intramuscularly or intravenously at doses of
10-20 mg, 2-3 times daily, depending on the nature and the gravity
of the disease. The injection solution should not be mixed with
other drugs.
MEDICINAL FORM AND PACKAGE:
Ampoules of 10 mg/2 ml (0.5 %) in packs of 10 and 50.
STORAGE:
At moderate temperature (15-30 C) in a place protected from light.
EXPIRY:
2 (two) years.
