VITAMIN
C AMPOULE 500 MG/5 ML (10%) |
-
- COMPOSITION:
Ascorbic acid 200 mg/2 ml; 500 mg/5 ml
in one ampoule.
ACTION:
Ascorbic acid has an effect on the intracellular
oxidative-restorative processes and on the tissue respiration. It
increases the synthesis of specific antimicrobial antioxins by
improving the function of reticuloendothelial bodies. It reduces the
permeability of marginal membranes, making the capillaries more
compact and promoting the restriction of exudative, inflammatory and
partially of allergic reactions; it has a desensitizing effect on
the organism. Its antipermeability action is enhanced by Vitamin P
(rutin and other bioflavonoids). It has a hemostatic effect.
Stimulates the synthesis of corticosteroids. Improves the appetite
and stimulates the growth of the young generation. It favors the
formation of collids which maintain the structure of the bones,
teeth, muscles and blood vessels. There is evidence that it can
prevent the advancement of atherosclerosis. It is intensively spent
during febrile states.
PHARMACOKINETICS:
Ascorbic acid is absorbed quickly and completely, mainly in the
proximal segment of the small intestine. It is evenly distributed in
the tissues of the body. It is metabolized to dehydroascorbic,
2-3-diketogulonic and oxalic acid in the liver. When the
concentration gradient in the plasma exceeds 1.4 mg per 100 ml, the
ascorbic acid is eliminated with the urine. The administration of
doses of 2 and 4 g daily is not associated with the increased
quantity of oxalates in the urine. Only with a dose of 9 g daily a
significant increase of oxalates in the urine of healthy volunteers
has been established about 95 mg for 24 h.
INDICATIONS:
In hemorrhagic diathesis due to enhanced fragility of the
capillaries: for improvement of the general resistance of the body
to local and general infections, pertussis, scarlet fever,
diphtheria, pneumonia, etc.; drug and intestinal intoxications,
refractory wounds and fractures, in dental caries; pregnancy and
breast-feeding, toxicosis of pregnancy, dermatitis; Basedow's
disease, diabetes, hypertonic disease; stomatitis. |
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Enhanced coagulability of blood, thrombophlebitis, liability to
thrombosis.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Administered in a dose of 5-10 g daily, Vitamin C can cause
gastrointestinal discomfort.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Vitamin C interacts with the tests for quantitative determination of
glucose and urine, with the use of oxidation-reduction methods.
Vitamin C administration should be discontinued 1-2 days prior to
the tests. Ascorbic acid is not mixed in one syringe or infusion
solution with ampicillin, carbencillin, cefalosporins,
chloramphenicol, etc.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Prophylactically - adults, 25-75 mg; to newborn babies - orally 6
mg/kg body weight but not exceeding 30-35 mg daily. In the presence
of methemglobinemia in breast-fed infants and little children -
doses between 500 mg and 1 g daily are recommended.
Therapeutically - the doses of adults should not be lower than 250
mg daily, divided into 3-4 intakes. In refractory wounds, infectious
diseases and iron deficiency anemia - oral doses of half to one gram
daily are recommended. Doses of 1-2 g daily, intravenously, are
recommended for prophylaxis of surgical shock.
